Some people don’t like being called an “old” friend because they’re sensitive about their age, but Penny is the kind of person who revels in reality and takes life as it comes. Now a chaplain and fierce political organizer, she was my friend years ago when we were both young and full of energy. She was a guest at my wedding. Then we lost touch. I think she’s still full of energy and passion, and it was wonderful to catch up with her again. How? Via Facebook, of course! I’m telling you, people who proudly proclaim their aversion to Facebook must have no lost friends for whom they pine. It really made me happy to talk to my “old” friend, not just about old times, but about now and the future, especially what our generation can do to make the world better–and this from someone who has been making it better already for many years. It does my heart good to know there are people like her in the world, and to now and then have a chance to sit and listen to her.
Blessings, Penny!
