Study Hall, Monday, June 1

IMG_0259

You know, if you need to really concentrate on an especially difficult writing task, you can give yourself a writing retreat. A day alone in a hotel room where no one else knows the number. A day by the lake with your MacBook (and a portable charger). Even a day at Starbucks. Watch this space on Friday and I’ll tell you how I do it.

So, what are YOU working on today? I’m revising an essay that has just been accepted by Drunken Boat lit mag. Because I have to. But maybe I’ll sneak away for a little while to check in with Queen Esther and her four sisters and see what they’re up to after their marble game (See below for explanation.)

Leave us a comment to let us know how you’re plugging along today.

I’m here early today! Chomping at the bit! I’m working on two things – another blog post and writing more for my book!

Today’s haiku was written before I read your suggestions for doing a “retreat.”

Wow, Linda! Such synchronicity! Could it be because you’ve known me for years? Your haiku makes me think of a caterpillar and how slowly they move, how slowly they metamorphose.

A suggestion for Roberta, who’s having a bad day: Maybe a good time to introduce plot tension? You could channel those bad feelings into your antagonist.

Thanks, Glenda. Will keep in mind for future. Worked my way out of it.

In a negative mood this am, matching June gloom outside, but I’m here, committed to sticking to this seat for about 2 hours. Torn between continuing w/ Randi (BTW, Glenda: short for Alexandria) where I last was, and exploring her in a prior year. Will try the latter. If it doesn’t work, at least I have an option.

2 hrs later: this apparently didn’t post earlier?

Fantastic, Bobbie! You’ll have a whole draft before you know it! I was doing well until I went to the eye doctor this afternoon–major headache! But I did get a complete redraft of the essay done. So–mission accomplished? Hope everyone else had a great day, too. See you next Monday!
