Write With Me! Study Hall, Monday, August 3, 2015

Have you been feeling a bit punchy lately?

Me, too!
Know what will cure that?

Getting something down on paper!
It’s not a bad idea to write out whatever is bothering you. On the page, you can push, pull, manipulate, erase, and sometimes solve problems.
But even if you’re Pollyanna today, I promise if you’ll feel better if you set a writing goal and strive to reach it today. You’re bound to make some progress, and you’ll have us all cheering you on!
Please leave a comment below, because, you know, cheerleading our way is a mutual endeavor. Good luck, and hallelujah! (A tip: Don’t use as many exclamation points in your writing as I just did. Editors frown on that.) see you later.

Today I was planning to work more on Ruth from The Man Who Loved Chocolate, but while Simone and I were walking this morning, a conversation in my head about walking became an essay about needed criminal justice reforms. So I think I’ll try to draft that. Wish me luck!

Good luck, Glenda. I’ll be joining in the afternoon. Don’t know what will come out yet! 🙂

Sometimes it’s fun to see what comes. I noted Mrs. Crotty has been very chatty lately. Much enjoy her observations about city life.

Thanks for teaching me two new words: “punchy” and “Pollyanna”.

Care to exchange a couple of German words for them?

I am still thinking about how to translate “punchy” and “Pollyanna”. I do not like any of the translations my dictionary offers, but I cannot come up with something better.

Have you seen the movie or read the book, Pollyana? It refers to someone who always sees the sunshine in every situation.

Punchy is how I feel when I’ve been working too hard for too long without a break. A bit overreactive!

Thank you. Yes, I understood as much, but somehow I can’t find translations as colourful as the English words.

Imagine how Monty Python would illustrate “punchy”!
