Summer Blessings

From my perch on the top step of the pool I can see clouds rimmed in falling sun, cedars outlined in blue sky, and pink Crepe Myrtle blossoms glowing against deep green acanthus. My family is well. The world is a welter of births and deaths, abundance, deprivations, unexpected kindnesses and unspeakable cruelty. So much violence, such joy. My job is to explain these things, but my throat is stopped by my thankfulness that all is well with me. A respite, that is all. Tomorrow I begin again, finding words, making sense, wishing for wisdom.

I would love to see those cedars in the kind of light you describe. Lovely.
